As we celebrate our 100th edition of The Tudor Times, we’ve reflected on the golf news, upcoming events, holes-in-one, milestones, quizzes, Members on Tour and club events shared over the years.

But the real story of WAGC has always been its members. As we look ahead to the next 100 editions, we’d love your ideas. What would you like to see more of? More stories? More photos? More competition coverage? More member features?

Welcome Back Nigel

We are absolutely delighted to welcome back Nigel Cameron as House Manager of The Western Australian Golf Club.

After a two-year absence, it’s wonderful to see a familiar and well-respected face return to the team. Many of our members will remember the energy, professionalism and genuine warmth Nigel brought to the role previously. During that time, he built strong relationships across the Club and played a key role in delivering the high standard of service and hospitality the Club prides itself on.

Since departing, Nigel has further broadened his experience and standing in the Golf industry, bringing fresh ideas and renewed enthusiasm back with him. We’re confident this next chapter will be an exciting one for our Clubhouse operations and the overall member experience.

Nigel’s first day will be Tuesday 3 March. Please join us in warmly welcoming Nigel back to the Club. Be sure to say hello next time you’re in — he is looking forward to reconnecting with familiar faces and meeting new members alike.

Call for Members – Membership Review Working Group

The Board are seeking expressions of interest from Members who would like to participate in a Membership Review Working Group.

This group will undertake a review of our current membership categories to ensure they continue to meet the needs of our Club and its Members, both now and into the future.
We invite members who are interested in contributing on a whole-of-club basis to register their interest.

If you would like to be involved, please contact our Membership & Communications Co-ordinator, Sarah Papadoulis, via emial to membership@wagolfclub.com.au to express your interest by Monday 2 March.

We look forward to hearing from members who are keen to help shape the future of our Club.

Board Update

The Board met on Tuesday 3 February and some of the outcomes are detailed below:

  • The draft minutes of the Annual General Meeting held on 13 December 2025 were approved for publication and are available to view on the Club website.
  • A Course Development Plan was endorsed for presentation to Members at a forthcoming Special General Meeting. Members will have the ability to attend the meeting remotely.
  • The process for awarding the contract for replacement of the irrigation system, as endorsed by the Finance Committee, was approved.
  • A variation to the Southern Driveway security project was approved (further details below).
  • Approval was given to replace south-facing balcony windows with thicker glass following a recent safety incident.
  • The recommendation from Match Committee to update the Use of Motorised Transportation Policy was approved (further details below).
  • Approval of the Ladies Committee recommendation for Care Bags be the major beneficiary of funds raised from the 2026 Ladies Charity Day and Starick to receive proceeds from the 2026 Fashion Parade.
  • High-level results from the Annual Member Survey were reviewed. The Board will meet informally in April to explore the feedback further.

The next scheduled Board meeting is on Tuesday 19 May.

Southern Driveway Security Project

A capital expenditure project to secure the southern driveway was approved during the 2026 budget setting process. There has been a variation to the project with removal of internal Board parking bays already underway and an automatic gate has been downgraded to a manual gate.

These works involve the removal of the existing road base, followed by turfing and landscaping of the area. This space will be available as a laydown area to support additional cart traffic when required.

The works will improve security, with the front of the clubhouse becoming fully enclosed and the gate designed to match the existing fencing. Overall parking capacity should be maintained with the frangipani tree relocated to the rear garden area adjacent to the 17th tee.

The project timeline is currently being finalised, with multiple trades required to complete the works. Every effort will be made to complete the project as efficiently as possible with minimal disruption to the membership.

Members are reminded not to enter the work zone during this time for their safety.

Updates to Use of Motorised Transportation Policy

On the recommendation of the Match Committee, the Board has approved updates to the Use of Motorised Transportation policy. Key changes include:

  • Removal of a defined “winter period” from 1 May to 31 August – the change in weather patterns has been recognised and with 30+ degree days experienced in May 2025, restricting the use of motorised transportation during this period was unnecessary. There may still be occasions where cart use is restricted or limited to Members aged 65 and over or have medical approval due to weather and course conditions.
  • Eligibility to win Principal Club events is still limited and to be eligible, Members using motorised transportation need to be aged 65 and over or have medical approval.
  • The process for obtaining medical approval is outlined in the policy and will only be granted if a Member is unable play 18 holes of golf without the use of motorised transportation. This approval may be revoked if a Member can play golf without the use of motorised transportation.
  • When demand exceeds availability, priority for the hire and use of Club-owned motorised transportation will be given to Members who meet the age-based eligibility criteria or who have received medical approval in accordance with the policy.
Members whose medical approval was granted more than two years ago will be contacted and asked to re-apply should they still meet the criteria.

Rules Corner - Test Your Knowledge

In stroke play, a player accidentally moves their ball while searching for it in the general area. The spot from which the ball was moved is not known, so the player lifts the ball, and places another ball as near as possible to where they believe it originally lay. They play the ball onto the green and then request a ruling. What is the correct ruling is that the player gets?
