Member Code of Conduct
It is a privilege to belong to The Western Australian Golf Club and Members should always conduct themselves in an appropriate manner and be united in their desire to uphold the highest standards of behaviour to:
- protect the health and safety of the Club’s employees and contractors;
- ensure the provision of a safe, respectful and enjoyable environment for Members and their guests;
- protect the ability of the Club to execute its public responsibilities to manage the Course, Clubhouse and Grounds; and
- protect the reputation of the Club.
On joining the Club, Members agree to be bound by this Code and the Club’s Rules and in particular to not behave in an unbecoming or dishonourable manner. This includes but is not limited to:
- offensive, discriminatory, racist, sexist, aggressive or otherwise inappropriate discourse or actions towards any other person;
- harassment of any kind;
- unwanted physical contact;
- drunk or disorderly conduct;
- unsafe or unlawful conduct;
- abuse of, or inappropriate conduct towards staff members;
- non-compliance with instructions given by staff members;
- bringing alcohol on to the premises without authorisation;
- consumption of alcohol in non-designated areas;
- possession or use of illicit substances;
- misuse of membership entitlements;
- acting dishonestly in any dealings with the Club;
- any behaviour that brings the Club into disrepute.
Members must:
- Treat all other Members and their guests and visitors to the Club fairly, equally and with respect.
- Treat all staff fairly, equally and with respect and refrain from directing staff on how they should perform their duties. Dissatisfaction should be reported to the appropriate supervisor or Manager.
- Follow all reasonable directions given by Management or a Board Member.
- Be familiar with and comply with Club policies, procedures and By-laws.
- Treat Club property and premises with respect.
- Comply with Club safety practices and requirements.
- Refrain from behaviour which may bring the good name of the Club into disrepute and not make statements on behalf of the Club unless authorised to do so.
- Accompany their guests at all times, ensure that they are correctly dressed and that their behaviour is appropriate, and ensure requirements for visitors are complied with.
- Not canvass other Members for business while at the Club, and not bring goods for sale or supply on to the Club’s premises.
- Be open and honest when Proposing or introducing new Members for membership.
Members with course privileges will:
- Not manipulate the on-line booking system.
- If cancelling an on-line golf booking, advise the first named person in the flight. If cancelling on the day of competition, Members must endeavour to contact the Golf Shop.
- Arrive at the tee ready to play at least ten minutes before the scheduled starting time, wearing appropriate golf attire in accordance with current dress standards. A Member should recognise that it is his or her duty to advise playing partners if they are not dressed in accordance with current Club standards.
- Use the practice range and practice facilities in accordance with all instructions and signage.
- Play all competition golf within the rules as prescribed by the R&A, the local rules and any temporary local rules.
- Inform another player if you believe he or she is about to breach a rule.
- If you observe another player deliberately breaching a rule, you MAY bring it to the attention of the player concerned, but you MUST report it to the relevant Captain, Vice Captain or staff member and make a clear written statement in relation to the matter.
- When playing a ball off a fairway other than the one that you are playing, you must: firstly, wait until the players on that fairway have played their ball; secondly, signal that you wish to come on to their fairway and play your ball and; thirdly, immediately after playing your ball, remove yourself from their field of play.
- Report any incidents of errant golf balls leaving the Club boundaries, whether you believe you have caused any damage or not, including location, time and witnesses, to the Golf Shop as soon as reasonably possible.
- Follow all recommendations and directions regarding pace of play and engage ready golf tactics should you fall behind the group in front.
- Conduct themselves with golf etiquette at all times and particularly when in the vicinity of other Members on tees and putting greens.
Members are expected to know the Rules, apply them and are responsible for ensuring guests also understand the Club’s expectations of them.
Breaches of this code of conduct either express or implied will be dealt with in accordance with the Club’s Complaints and Disputes process and may result in suspension or cancellation of membership.
Adherence to this Code will help us all ensure we have a safe, respectful and pleasant environment in which to enjoy the great privileges of membership of The Western Australian Golf Club.
