Junior Membership
At The Western Australian Golf Club, we’re proud to support the next generation of golfers. We offer two junior membership options tailored to suit young players at different stages whether they’re new to the game or looking to advance their skills.
Our junior programs offer a strong introduction to golf in a friendly and supportive setting, helping young players grow their game and enjoy time on one of Perth’s top courses.
Junior Development Membership
A person who is under 18 years of age on the day of joining may become a Junior Development Member if they are a child, grandchild or sibling of a current member, or a registered participant in the Club’s junior program.
A Junior Development Member may play on the course from 3:30 pm and must be accompanied by an adult Member. Practice facilities may be used before 3:30 pm during school holidays outside of competition tee times.
Junior Development Members may register for 9-hole social competitions for the purpose of gaining a GA handicap or recording scores to handicap.
This membership is an ideal introduction for children keen to learn more about golf and begin playing on the course. Once a junior is confident on the course, has obtained a GA handicap, or shows increased interest in competitions, they can request to transfer to Junior Membership.
Junior Membership
A Junior Membership is available to anyone aged 12 to under 18 years. Unlike Junior Development Members, Junior Members are not required to be accompanied by an adult during their allocated playing times. This category is ideal for juniors who have more on-course experience, are confident managing their own game, understand golf etiquette, and are ready for greater independence on the course.
Junior Members enjoy Lifestyle Playing Privileges (subject to Board restrictions and conditions) as follows:
Lifestyle Membership | Playing Times and Competitions |
---|---|
Monday | All day social play |
Tuesday | AM 9-HOLE COMPETITION FOR WOMEN Social play from 12:30pm with an optional 9-hole competition |
Wednesday | Social play from 3:30pm |
Thursday | AM 9-HOLE COMPETITION FOR WOMEN Social play from 12:30pm |
Friday | Social play from 1:15pm with an optional 9-hole competition |
Saturday | Social play from 3:30pm |
Sunday | Social play from 1:30pm |
All playing rights are subject to course availability.
Junior Members may participate in adults golf competitions but must have at least one Member in their group who is not a Junior Member, and there can be no more than two players under 18 in the same group unless in a dedicated junior timeslot or with the Captain’s approval.
Membership includes participation in the Junior Membership Program, which offers group coaching sessions and junior competitions such as:
-
WAGC Junior Summer Cup – Our flagship 18-hole junior stroke event held each January.
-
Junior Monthly Medals – Held one Sunday afternoon each month during the golf season.
-
Additional fun and competitive junior events throughout the year.
Junior Members also have the opportunity to represent WAGC in the Golf WA Junior Pennant Competition, with team selection and training held each January.
Any person under the age of 12 who wishes to join as a Junior Member must submit a written application for Board approval. All applicants must be proposed by a current WAGC member with playing rights.
Transition to Lifestyle Membership at 18 Years
A Junior Development or Junior Member will transition to Lifestyle Membership from the Membership Year after reaching the age of 18 years unless they have applied and been approved by the Board to become a Member in another category. The Board may approve or reject the application and may include conditions on its approval.
